Graphic Design

Graphic design is the practice of crafting meaningful and effective messages. An education in graphic design will teach you how to conceptually brainstorm, investigate complex design problems, employ foundational principles, and effectively use emerging software technologies. You’ll critically analyze your work while developing technical and analog design skills which will translate to a wide variety of potential careers.

“I would like to be a creative director for a professional sports team.

“I came into Carroll not confident about my major choice of graphic design. The ability to explore while confirming my interest in the graphic communication program was awesome. After taking classes with the professors within the program, I knew that I had made the right choice. The curriculum was interesting and challenging, which pushed me to become a stronger student.

“The liberal arts education that I’ve received at Carroll has helped me develop transferable skills such as communication, problem-solving, and applying knowledge and skills in real-world settings. When I think about how Pio Core has impacted me, I think of knowledge, awareness, and attitude. The Pio Core focuses on informing us about different subjects, but mainly culture. Over the course of my studies, I have noticed that knowledge has made me aware, and awareness has changed my attitude for the better.”

About the Graphic Design Major

Carroll University’s graphic design program offers course topics in principles of design, color theory, typography, digital video, packaging, brand identity development, UI/UX, photography, 3D, multimedia production, and more. You’ll gain a thorough understanding of graphic design theory and history which will support you while generating informative, effective designs. The curriculum provides an interdisciplinary approach to the creative process – allowing students to experiment, articulate, and define innovative solutions.

Through additional course offerings from the art, photography, and business departments, you’ll further develop your creative skills and expand your marketing knowledge. Our connections with the local professional design community means there are numerous internship opportunities available. Students have the chance to gain real-world experiences in and out of the classroom. By the completion of the graphic design major, students will have generated a professional-level, comprehensive portfolio and be confidently prepared for their first job interviews.
