Dr. David L. Morris '50

2003 Distinguished Alumnus Award for Professional Achievement

Dr. David L. Morris, a 1950 Carroll graduate, has been a pioneer in the revolutionary treatment of severe allergies. He has been sought out by patients worldwide whose allergies do not respond to traditional treatments. Dr. Morris has published and participated in many research studies and is interested in the allergic effects on chronic sinus and skin problems. He became the nation’s first family physician to earn board-certification in allergy and immunology.   

Morris has contributed to the pioneering work on oral treatment of respiratory problems caused by molds. The innovative approach led to the development of the internationally recognized protocol called sublingual therapy—which is a method where a patient receives antigen drops under the tongue instead of traditional injections.

David credits Carroll for providing him with a solid foundation that helped prepare him for a successful professional career in medicine. He views Carroll as a place where he found prayer, gained confidence, and started on the path to become a doctor—and most importantly, met his wife, Sacia (Brewer) Morris '50. Morris served on the Carroll Board of Trustees from 1974-1982.

Dr. Morris is the owner, president and practitioner of Allergy Associates of La Crosse, Ltd., as well as the founder of Allergychoices, Inc., a company focused on expanding education for and access to sublingual immunotherapy treatment. He shares his successful allergy practice with his daughter Mary.

In October 2000, the University of Wisconsin Medical School dedicated the Morris Institute of Respiratory Research to study the causes of, and develop cures for, allergic, inflammatory and genetic respiratory diseases.

Morris and his wife, Sacia, live in Onalaska, Wis. They have four adult children: three daughters and one son.
