Major: Psychology
Minor: Biochemistry

What made you choose this major?

I picked this major because there is a large degree of uncertainty with mental illness. I would enjoy to contribute and help gain knowledge about the numerous disorders and how one contracts and is treated for these illnesses.

How has what you’ve learned prepared you for your future?

What I’ve learned so far has allowed me to look at things in different ways. Also, I’ve gained experiences that have helped me get an idea of what I’d like to do in the future. I believe the knowledge you gain from these courses allows you to be successful in whatever field you go into.

What opportunities have you had to work closely with a faculty member and what impact has that had on your education?

Carroll’s small class size allows for one-on-one attention from the professors. Also, it is much easier to grow professional relationships with faculty members. I’ve been able to work as a research assistant with a faculty member. This relationship has opened many doors for me, because they have directed me towards programs I should participate in or suggested classes that I was unaware of that in the end were very beneficial. This has all occurred while receiving valuable experience from being able to help with research. Overall, by the ability to build close professional relationships with faculty, I’ve been able to receive a great education that places me in a great position moving forward.

What’s one unique experience you’ve had relating to the coursework for your major?

I believe the most unique experience for me has been the ability to take a class at a nearby psychiatric hospital and gain the hands-on, as well as, in-depth knowledge of treating mental illnesses.

How has Carroll enriched your growth as a person outside of the skills you’re learning in the classroom?

Carroll is very good about allowing the ability to double major or minor. I’ve been able to pursue a psychology major and minor in biochemistry with an emphasis in pre-medicine. Even with this, I was involved in multiple clubs such as Psychology Club, Outdoor Adventure Club and the Indian Student Association. Along with clubs, I have worked on campus at the Center for Academic Advising Services as a Pioneer Academic Advising Leader. This allows me to help students with what classes they should take as well as help guide students to choosing what they’d like to take here at Carroll. Also, I participate in the Army National Guard outside of Carroll University. There are numerous ways to get involved and pursue different interests while attending Carroll University. I recommend pursuing a major that interests you and don’t be afraid to try new things. You never know if you’re going to like it if you don’t try it. Another thing is, if you don’t like your major, you’re not stuck with it! You can always explore the other majors and see if you like another one better!

Why did you choose to attend Carroll University?

I am very happy with attending Carroll University because I have been able to explore many different interests, as well as grow close professional relationships with faculty that will be very beneficial for me in the future.
